Overview
Shortlisted to win the 2021 CBCA Eve Pownall Award this is a beautifully illustrated non-fiction picture book that sensitively portrays the miscarriage of justice that was the Azaria Chamberlain Case.
Exploring the role of the media in history-telling this story has the hindsight of time to be able to look back on what has become a cautionary of who and what to trust in a system that failed. This book is best read to older students in Years 5 or 6 and would fit into a unit on the Australian legal system, Australian history or Australian animals. The 5 activities we have designed include a timeline of events eventually leading to Lindy Chamberlain full acquittal, a comprehension activity about dingoes, how to draw a dingo, sorting fact from falsehoods and learning about Ayres Rock or Uluru.
