Overview

Xiao Xin means “be careful’ in Chinese but when it is also your name life can seem a little confusing. A beautifully illustrated story about a young boy who is not afraid to be strong and powerful - he just needs a chance to show his family who he really is.

The activities for this book explore the Chinese language presented in the story along with a beautiful art and craft activity and an activity to sort safe and unsafe activities. These are designed to allow children from Pre-school to Year 2 or 3 to explore the concepts of this book.

If you would like to get outside and be more active with this book you could take your children to a local pond and see what shadows they can see on the water just like Xiao Xing saw a different version of himself when he looked at his reflection. Alternatively you could have your children stand in front of a mirror and describe what they see now and what they would like to see in the future when they look at themselves.
