Overview

Cicada is written and illustrated by Shaun Tan and was the CBCA Picture Book of the Year 2019. It tells the story of an office working cicada who, in broken English, tells of his life of hard work for little reward and often bullying within the workplace. Written in a format similar to the famous Matsuo Basho's Japanese haiku poems this story is able to touch children of all ages and the adults reading it to them.
