Overview

Dry To Dry is the latest in a series of informative texts from Walker Books. 2021 CBCA Eve Pownall Award Book of the Year for a non-fiction book presented in an imaginative style book details the seasons of Kakadu. While the 2 seasons of Wet and Dry are mentioned the Indigenous People of Kakadu have 6 seasons to differentiate between the cold dry, the hot dry, the humid dry, the monsoonal wet, the stormy wet and the cold wet.

With beautiful illustrations by Liz Anelli, Pamela Freeman tells the story of the animals that call Kakadu home. From the burrowing long-necked turtle, to the long-legged jabiru to the tiny tadpoles and the migratory birds this is perfect for students in Years 2 to 6.

We have made 6 activities for this book both informational and creative that will help you bring this book into your classroom. These activities include mapping the Indigenous seasons against those commonly in use across the rest of Australia, learning about the Leichhardt Grasshopper found only in Kakadu, a food chain related to the life cycle of frogs, a maths activity to calculate the rainfall of Kakadu, a comparison between fresh and saltwater crocodiles and a craft activity to make a water lily.
