The is the first in our series of audio stories about animals in the urban environment. This is an evolving format Written and recorded by Paddy McCann. The stories follow the adventures of siblings Mary and Thomas and their friends Eric and Shandy who discover native animals living in their backyard and neighbourhood and form a club to help protect them. The first 5 min chapter could be considered a primer for the series with the next instalment a 6min short story that introduces the main characters and a Marsupial Mouse (more accurately, a Dasyurid Antechinus ). The third instalment introduces the creation of the club, Protectors of Native Animals (PONA), and in response to feedback from educators, the length has been increased to 15mins. These stories make great lesson primers for primary school-aged children and fabulous 'nap time' stories for preschool-aged children. These stories also provide parents with uniquely Australian content to delight and educate siblings of different ages e.g. readers and listeners alike.
