Overview

This 2023 CBCA shortlisted Eve Pownall Award book is a cautionary tale of the effects of introduced species on Australian natives. This story features 2 swallows who struggle to build their nest and lay their eggs thanks to an unwelcome sparrow.


The activities for this book are designed for children from preschool age who can engage with the story as a simple life cycle text to those in Year 6 who can explore the destruction caused by introduced species.
