Pandemic Book Activities Games
Overview
Pandemic by Jackie French is a timely book about the Spanish flu and Jackie Grandmother acts of kindness during that time. With illustrations completed by Bruce Whatley during 2 weeks in hotel isolation to prevent the spread of Coronavirus-19 this is a beautiful way to teach children that this is not the first pandemic people have faced. That it is not a time to fight over toilet paper and incite fear but a time to care for our neighbours and band together to do what need to be done to survive. There are 6 activities for this book including a comprehension on the Spanish Flu of 1920 and a Venn diagram of the differences and similarities between a normal flu and a pandemic. There is an activity looking at the artwork of Bruce Whatley and what can be created with just biro and watercolour and one focused on the acts of kindness in the story and how we can help others. The final 2 activities are focused on preventing the spread of diseases with a very simple hand washing activity and instructions on how to make a mask from a simple sheet of fabric and 2 hair elastics.
