This 2023 notable picture book of the year is designed for older readers from years 5 and up. It is incredibly beautifully illustrated but has a deep message for its reader that borders on profound as the reader follows the young girl’s journey into the Lion’s palace to save her brothers. Emotively similar to stories such as Hansel and Gretel this has parallels to Jesus and his 3 days before resurrection and the story of Aslan in the Narnia series which is CJ Lewis’s questioning of god.
