Celebrating CBCA Book Week 2024: Reading Is Magic!

It’s that time of year again — CBCA Book Week is just around the corner, running from August 17th to 23rd! This year’s theme, *Reading Is Magic*, perfectly captures the wonder and joy that books bring into our lives. At Learn From Play, we’re thrilled to help you celebrate with a treasure trove of activities, book costume ideas, and resources to make this Book Week truly magical.

Why CBCA Book Week Matters

CBCA Book Week is a special time for schools, libraries, and communities across Australia to come together and celebrate the best in Australian children's literature. It’s a week where we can encourage young readers to dive into new worlds, discover inspiring characters, and fall in love with reading all over again.

Costume Ideas to Bring Books to Life

Book Week Costumes

One of the highlights of CBCA Book Week is, of course, the opportunity to dress up as your favourite book character! Whether your little one wants to be a magical witch, an Oompa Loompa or a mischievous animal, we’ve got plenty of costume ideas on our site to help you create the perfect look. With simple DIY ideas and printable masks, we’ve got you covered!

Activities for Shortlisted Books

Early Childhood Book Activities

We’re particularly excited to share that we’ve created activities for many of the notable and shortlisted books for 2024. These activities are designed to engage young readers and help them connect more deeply with these fantastic stories. This year we have made activities for all six Early Childhood Books, five of the six Picture Book of the Year Contenders and a handful of the Eve Pownall Award and New Illustrator books. Visit the site to see all of the activities and choose some to use with your learners.

Special Activities for the Theme *Reading Is Magic*

This year’s theme, *Reading Is Magic*, has inspired us to create a range of enchanting activities that celebrate the magic of books. Whether it’s crafting a magic wand to help cast a “reading spell” or sharing your favourite book to inspire other readers, our activities are designed to ignite the imagination and bring a touch of magic to your Book Week celebrations. You can explore all our Book Week 2024 activities, including those for the *Reading Is Magic* theme, here.

Get Involved and Share Your Magic!

We can’t wait to see how you celebrate CBCA Book Week 2024! Whether you’re dressing up, diving into a new book, or participating in one of our activities, we’d love to hear about it. Share your Book Week adventures with us on social media and let’s spread the magic of reading far and wide!

Here’s to a magical CBCA Book Week filled with stories, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. Happy reading, everyone! ✨📚

PS. While my own children are too old to dress up for Book Week I wanted to share this amazing, and super easy costume my sister made for my nephew.
