In case you are not one of the 17,000 teachers already registered I want to encourage you to join this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime. Being held on Wednesday May 19th at exactly 11am it is not too late to register now and grab a digital copy of Philip Bunting’s Give Me Some Space! to read with your children.
Held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) 2021 is set to be the biggest year yet. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 21st successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
As part of this year’s celebrations, the team at Learn From Play have created 21 printable activities, online games and we are running a colouring-in competition with over $1,500 worth of Staedler prizes.
If that was not enough, we also have a previous blog article which included a stack of games you could play with your students for extra fun on the day. You can read that here.
On top of this large collection there are also activities which have been created by ALIA - The Australian Library Information Association. This includes sending a copy of the book into space so that it can be read by NASA astronaut Shannon Walker.
There are also science based experiments from the Australian Space Agency and the Office of The Chief Scientist. Plus we have an entire unit on space which covers all the planets, the stars, the sun and the moon. There is a galaxy of resources on Learn From Play for this year’s NSS so make sure you are a part of it.
